Elizabeth Mae Spirk, May 2 1930 to March 10 2022, daughter of Elizabeth Fleck and Thomas Kirwin. Proceeded in death by her husband John; Janet Henwood, who she had in her life and her heart as a daughter; and grandson Robert Norris Spirk.
She is survived by her 4 boys, Jack, Tom, Bob and Paul; daughter-in-law and hairdresser Terri; grandchildren, Brandon (Paula), Shelly (Chris), Jennifer, Tanya, Meghan, Ashley, John; and great-grandchildren, Haylee, Grant, Jackson, and Delainy.
John and Betty were original Levittown home owners, a far move back then from her childhood home in the Bridesburg section in Philadelphia . Betty grew up in her grandmothers house, Elizabeth Rolle, herself a widow who was raising 9 children, now had a big family. Betty’s aunts became like sisters through out her life, Aunt Margret is still with us and just turned 100. She is the last of our Holly Hill moms who navigated this new place to raise us kids. One of those nieghborhood moms, Elaine McAdams, always encouraged Betty to work for the State of New Jersey with her. She had other jobs after her children finished school but she started her career with the state. She excelled in many areas and reluctantly retired at age 72 from her position in Human Services Department and missed her coworkers who she loved dearly.
She needed more time as she wanted to travel which she did with many of her friends and members of her Senior Centers . She never wasted a minute of her time in her life. From knitting sweaters for her family, being a past officer with Bishop Egan Ladies Guild and St. Michaels Sodality and cleaning her church. She took up bowling and belonged to many clubs enjoying the friendship of her team mates. She was always there to help out friends, family or be the driver for those who couldn’t drive anymore.
Her thoughts on motherhood was that you do your best for all and especially for the one who needs it the most at the time. Which she did when she took her son back to help raise his two children and was able to be an amazing mom again for over 15 years till they in turn took care of her the past 5 years plus when her legs and hands no longer could do for so many others.
I do believe God is proud of the woman she was and what she did with the life he gave her. Betty taught her family about love and faith in God so I’m sure mom is in his loving arms and has much to tell to many family and friends who have gone before that she has been missing.
We will be saying goodbye to Betty, Thursday, March 17th, 2022, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown. Viewing at 9 AM followed by mass then laid to rest with her husband and next to her dad at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
