Born in Astoria, Queens, NY to the late William Hill and Catherine (Galanos) Igel, she was mostly raised in Philadelphia before moving to Levittown, PA. Dolores was a 61 year resident of Levittown and a 1962 graduate of Bishop Egan High School. Dolores married James McGuigan of Morrisville, PA on June 16, 1964 and they remained married for 47 years upon James’ passing in 2011. In the beginning of her adult life, Dolores was a homemaker and took care of her three children. Once her children reached high school age, she began working at Clarke Checks where she worked for 20+ years.
At her small stature of 4’11, she worked the largest machine in the facility. Dolores happily crocheted a baby blanket and sweater set for each of her grandchildren. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail was phenomenal so much so, that her friends often requested these items for their grandchildren. She was always delighted to honor their requests. Along with her husband, Dolores was a NASCAR enthusiast with her favorite driver being Rusty Wallace. Dolores was an avid reader, lover of cats and enjoyed politics. She also enjoyed listening to country music and dancing. She loved dancing so much that she appeared twice on American Bandstand in Philadelphia. However, what she enjoyed the most was spending time with her grandchildren.
Predeceased by her parents and her husband, James McGuigan; Dolores is survived by her children, James P. McGuigan (Alisa), William R. McGuigan, and Shannon M. Jarvis (John); her grandchildren, James Patrick, Lauren Elizabeth, Brogan David, John William, and Michaela Nicole; her sisters, Teresa E. Hamm and Bernadette Schmelder (Michael).
Visitation for family friends will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 8:45 AM until 9:45 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM followed by a private burial.
