Carol Anne DeRose (nee Roberts) died Monday, July 4, 2016 at age 74, after suffering a stroke. She was the devoted wife of Anthony F. (Tony) DeRose, and mother of Salvatore (Kathleen) and Anthony L. DeRose (Cynthia). Carol was an adoring grandmother to Pamala Seeley (Timothy); Salvatore DeRose, Jr. (Samantha); Anthony, Christopher, and Olivia DeRose; and to her great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Kathleen Seeley. Carol was raised in Bensalem, the 5th of eleven children born to Catherine and William Roberts. She and Tony were married for 52 years and lived in the Holmesburg and Mayfair sections of Northeast Philadelphia, before retiring in Collegeville, PA. Described by her many nieces and nephews as the matriarch of the Roberts family, Carol helped care for her younger siblings after her parents died at an early age. She is survived by three siblings, John Roberts (Franny), Mary Anne Fowler, and Deborah Sarcewicz (Raymond). Six of Carol's siblings predeceased her: William, James, Richard, Andrew, Louis, and Joseph Roberts, and Catherine Patricia Smyth. For over 30 years, Carol worked with her husband who owned The Modern Butcher Shop at the corner of Princeton Avenue and Crispin Street in Mayfair. Carol was also a Shaklee Wellness Consultant for many years. Always generous with her time, Carol was involved in many local organizations, including the Rotary Club and the Sons of Italy. She was an active parish member and school volunteer at St. Dominic Catholic Church, where many students remember her fondly as the "cupcake lady." Later, as a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation parish in Tacony, Carol supported fundraising efforts and social activities including bus trips and the annual spaghetti dinner. Carol's greatest love was being surrounded by her family. She never missed a school activity, sporting event, or performance that involved her grandchildren. Her home was the center of many family parties, and she would want her extended family to celebrate her life and keep her memory alive. Friends and relatives are invited to the funeral services, which will be held at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 7056 Tulip Street, Philadelphia, PA. The Viewing will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA. The family has designated Our Lady of Consolation for those who wish to make a memorial contribution in Carol's name.
