Betty was born in Florida and lived a very fulfilling life. In April of 1996, she married her husband, John Dougherty. For 19 years, she was happily married to John until he passed away in July, 2016. Their time spent together was joyful. Betty and John showed a common proclivity for gambling and going camping with their RV, both activities they loved doing together on a regular basis. They would joke they were gambling inheritance away but no amount of money replaces the compassionate soul, the positive energy, the witty sarcasm, or the bright light in life Betty offered to the people around her.
Betty was a very hard worker and considered a strong, independent business woman. She was the manager at Bailey’s Bar and Grille for over 20 years – she absolutely loved it there. In 2020, the legend retired. For Betty, this meant working at an auto parts warehouse delivering parts during the week and, during her retired free time, working with a food vendor, Stix2Go, at concerts and festivals. Regardless of what she did with her time, Betty radiated a positive vibe that energized and motivated everyone she conversed with.
Betty liked softball, participating in football pools, and working on her tan. She enjoyed holding Thanksgiving dinners and would get everyone to play games like 31 or left-right-center. She would also set up an extravagant Christmas village year after year that never failed to excite the Christmas spirit! Not only did Betty fill the room with positive energy but she had a great sense of humor everyone could relate to.
Betty was predeceased by her husband John and grandchild Tessa. She is survived by her sisters Dee and Theresa; brother-in-law Bob; followed by several nieces and nephews; her daughter Nicole with grandchildren Collin, Haylee, and great-grandchild Charlotte and grandchildren Tyler, Grace, Kacie, and Lily; her daughter Jodie and son-in-law Harry with grandchild Josh; her step-children Johnny and Janet, Jimmy and Sandy, Steven and Kim, followed by more grandchildren; and her Bailey’s work family along with the Bailey’s girls.
Betty, a loving wife, a caring sister, a wonderful mother, an inspirational grandmother, a great mother-in-law, an encouraging mentor, a good friend, will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Friday March 31, 2023 from 4 pm until 7 pm at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA. Words of Remembrance will commence at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org, a cause Betty cared strongly about and donated once a month.
