Virgil “Leo” Bullard, age 77, of Levelland, Texas, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 8, 2016, after a brief illness. Leo was born on June 13, 1938, to Samuel Wesley and Georgia Laverne Godwin Bullard in Brownfield, Texas. He married Sandra Rae McQueen Bullard on September 3, 1982, in Lubbock, Texas. He served in the United States Navy from 1955-63. Upon completion of service to his country, Leo enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Journeyman Electrician and later owned Bullard Heating, Air, and Electric Company in Levelland, Texas. Leo accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord as a young adult and faithfully served Him all the days of his life. He assisted in church plants in both Texas and Nebraska and had a deep desire to share his faith with all who sought to know the peace and hope he had within. Leo made it a regular habit to arise early each morning in order to spend time in Bible study and prayer before starting his day’s activities. It was not uncommon to find him in “his chair”, with Bible in hand and a prayer on his lips at 4:30 a.m. In addition to sharing his love of Jesus, Leo also loved spending time with his immediate and extended family and enjoying God’s great outdoors. Leo is survived by Sandra, his loving and faithful wife of almost 34 years. He is the proud father and father-in-law to Belinda Bullard Gratopp and husband, Marty of Norfolk, NE, Janda Bullard Bullock and husband Tony of Levelland, TX, Samuel Cole Bullard and wife Mary of Levelland, TX, Sheila Bullard Krakowski and husband Allen of Omaha, NE, Virgil Leo “Scooter” Bullard Jr. and wife Destiny of Andrews, TX. Additionally, he has been the loving stepfather to Danny Nations of Levelland, TX, and to Brad Nations and wife Stephanie of Lubbock, TX. Through these earthly treasures, he has been blessed with 17 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Leo has also enjoyed the lifetime companionship of his brothers, Jerry and wife Lois of Lubbock, TX, and Bobby and wife Betty of Brownfield, TX; as well as his sister, Eleanor Bullard Herman of Lubbock, TX. He has proudly worn the name, “Uncle Leo” for a host of nephews and nieces, and has been equally blessed to be called “dear friend, fellow brother-in-Christ, work partner, and coffee buddy” to Mr Kenneth Currington of Levelland, TX. Leo was a lover of animals and was the proud “Poppy” to his Scottish Terrier, Molly Belle, and her companion, a German Shepherd, Shadow Rae. A memorial service for Virgil Leo Bullard will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 10:00 am at the Levelland First Assembly of God, with burial to follow at 4:00 pm at the Talpa Cemetery in Talpa, Texas. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 om at George Price Funeral Home in Levelland. Reverend Robert Burns pastor of Levelland First Assembly of God, and Reverend Barry Bradley, pastor of First Baptist Church, Orange, will officiate the memorial service.
