Bobbie Doris Nicholson Melton

Bobbie Doris Nicholson Melton, 79, of Levelland, passed away on February 12, 2018. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at George Price Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February, 17, 2018, at 1pm at George Price Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shannon Gresham officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Levelland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the compassionate care of George Price Funeral Home. Bobbie was born on February 23, 1938, to George and Eunice (Simpson) Nicholson in Levelland, TX. She was the

third child of their eleven children. Bobbie attended schools in Pettit, TX and Levelland, TX. She worked as a car hop in Levelland as a teenager during the era of drive-in restaurants. On July 15, 1955, she married Gary Dean Melton. After living briefly in Levelland, they moved to Portales, NM, to begin farming. While inPortales, their first 3 children were born. They later returned to Texas,where Gary and his father had a farming operation for several years near Morton. After returning to Texas, their youngest two daughters were born. During their years at Morton, TX, Bobbie worked with her husband

on the farm. She enjoyed raising a garden and canning vegetables. During cotton harvest season, she helped by taking trailers of cotton to the gin. Bobbie was also an accomplished seamstress. The family

attended the County Line Baptist Church during this time. The Meltons later returned to New Mexico, where they farmed at Arch, NM, and Floyd, NM. In later years, Bobbie moved back to Levelland, and took care of her youngest daughter for over thirty years. Bobbie always greatly enjoyed getting together with her brothers and sisters and visiting. Bobbie had lived at the Levelland Nursing Home for the past 2 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Mickeal, in 1957, and a brother, Raymond Dale Nicholson, in 2017. Bobbie is survived by four children: Becky Collins and husband, David, of Amarillo, TX, Donnie Melton and wife, Diana, of Corrales, NM, LaVonna Archuleta and husband, Sam, of Rio Rancho, NM, and Staci Melton of Levelland. Bobbie is survived by ten grandchildren: Amy, April, Lesley,

Sara, Jennifer, Aleta, Jimmy Don, Garrett, Shayna, and Evan, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild that is due in June. She is also survived by eight sisters and one brother: Bonnie Moore of

Alvarado, TX, Ray Nicholson and wife, Jackie, of Bismarck, Arkansas, Pat Gresham of Levelland, Sandra Hutchins of Levelland, Twyla Beseda and husband, Larry, of Kingsland, TX, Betty Lack of Levelland, Margaret Bilbrey of Thackerville, Oklahoma, Dean Nicholson of Levelland, Nancy Lee and husband, Stan, of Midland, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews.
