Ginny was born in Payson, Utah on January 27, 1944 to Sarah Virginia (Packard) Harker and Joseph Alton Harker. The family moved to Boise, Idaho where Ginny spent her childhood years with her sister and three brothers enjoying their time on the Harco Ranch.
Ginny began a pen pal romance with a navy man from Lenoir, North Carolina who was sailing the Pacific Ocean on an aircraft carrier. Wesley Woods, family legend has it, hitchhiked from Long Beach, Ca to Boise, Id to ask for Ginny’s hand in marriage after only seeing a picture of her. She said yes and they spent the next 59 years together. They raised four children.
Ginny and Wes eventually moved east after the birth of their second child and made a home in Hudson, North Carolina for 52 years. Ginny was a devoted wife, mother and caregiver to many. The door to the Woods’ house was famously always unlocked and the light was always on. If you needed a place to lay your head or something in your belly, Mama Ginny was always there for you. Her generosity and acceptance of all is well known throughout her community.
Ginny loved to cross stitch and crochet. As father time took some crafts away she would always find another to use her talents. Ginny kept a journal so that, as days go by, her family could look back and still “hear” what she was doing and loved most. Every entry is about her time and love of her family.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Wesley Woods. Her 4 children – Wendy Mitchell (George), Joe Woods (Jamie), Christy Barnhardt (Robin), and Traci Johnson (John). Her 8 grandchildren – Katisha (Tisha) Tramble, Amanda (Mandee) Tomblin, Colton Woods, Madison Woods, Steven Barnhardt, Samuel Barnhardt, Sara Johnson, Mathew Johnson. Her Brothers Ted Harker (Betty), Paul Harker (Marie) and her sister Jeanette Howcroft (Tom).
Ginny is preceded in death by her parents Virginia and Joseph Harker and her brother Ralph.
