Virginia Proffitt Barlow, 79, of the Happy Valley community, peacefully passed away March 29, 2013 after battling a diligent and lengthy illness. Mrs. Barlow was the 11th of 12th children born August 21, 1933 to the late Thomas E. & Lillian Culver Proffitt in Banner Elk, NC.
She also precede in death of her husband of 45 years, late James (JD) Barlow and brothers, Fred, Donald, Edward, Chester, Tom and Bill Proffitt and sisters, Grace Proffitt, Margaret Graybeal & Bettie Bryant.
A talented seamstress, she retired from Nitso Corporation and won many 1st place ribbons at the Caldwell County Agricultural Fair for her handmade garments, crafts and can goods. She was also past president of the Blackstone Homemakers Club and helped publish two cookbooks.
To cherish her memories are her daughter, Karen Barlow and grandchildren, Alexia Melonie Dillard and Drake Montana Dillard all of Lenoir. Also her sisters, Mary Norris of Lenoir, Frances Bryant of Collettsville, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Of Baptist faith, a celebration of Mrs. Barlow’s life will be held Tuesday, April 2nd at 2pm at Yadkin Baptist Church in Patterson with Rev. Robert Livingston officating. Family will receive friends 6-8:30 pm Monday at the church. Interment will be at Nelson’s Chapel Baptist Church cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mitchell, Grady Carswell, Jason Barlow, Bryan Barlow, Lonnie Dillard and Trace Triplett. Honorary pallbearer will be Drake Dillard.
The family would like to thank Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care staff, Gateway Nursing, Lenoir Healthcare staff, Patty & Ricky Greene and Gene & Sadie Woods for all their time during this enduring illness.
