Mr. Key was born in Caldwell County to the late Carl Eugene Key and Nancy Lorraine
Franklin Key of Collettsville. He was a graduate of Haywood Community College with an Associates Degree in Forestry. He was employed as a land manager with Crescent Resources and a former volunteer Fire Chief of Collettsville Fire Department, a member of Zion Baptist Church in Morganton where he was a member of the choir and a member of the Men of Harmony Quartet. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and a member of many Bass Fishing Clubs.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his son, Heath Brandon Key and an infant brother, Boyd Key.
He is also survived by his wife, Gaye Ford Key, of the home; his son, Trevor Cain Key and wife Ashley of Collettsville; a brother, Floyd Key of Collettsville and a sister, Linda Key of Lenoir and her fiancé Campbell Roberts and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 06, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church of Morganton, with Dr. Steve Parker and Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Key Family Cemetery in Collettsville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Harrison, Patrick Houpe, Gary Avery, Mike Goodman, Robert Lail and Jeff Franklin. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be fellow avid fisherman.
