He was born on September 10, 1935 in Watauga County to the late Emory C. Bumgarner and Ella C. Bumgarner.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Hill Bumgarner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce H. Bumgarner of Cajah’s Mountain; son, Douglas R. Bumgarner and wife Kim of Granite Falls; daughter, Kathy B. Bryant and husband Tony of Lenoir; grandchildren, Matthew Bryant, Kristopher Bryant, Josh Bumgarner, and Teresa Bumgarner; sisters, Leona McLaughlin of Morganton, Thelma Harmon of Statesville, and Nina Orders of Morganton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Per Mr. Bumgarner’s request, funeral services will be private.
The family of Mr. Bumgarner would like to extend their gratitude to the third floor staff of Caldwell Memorial Hospital as well as the staff at the Shaire Center for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Clarks Chapel Baptist Church, Organ Fund, 3131 Clarks Chapel Road, Lenoir, North Carolina 28645.
