In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Truman Billings, and her husband of 63 years, Jack B. Pennell.
Tiny graduated from Cove Creek High School in Watauga County and worked at Hunt’s Department Store in Boone while taking business courses at Appalachian State Teachers College. She moved to Lenoir and started her business career working for Lenoir Finance Company. She retired from Grand Manor Furniture in 1991.
Tiny was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir. She was active in PTA and band boosters’ groups at Lower Creek Elementary and Hibriten High while her three children attended school. Jack and Tiny enjoyed attending concerts and plays at Appalachian State University, the Broyhill Civic Center, and many other venues in northwestern NC. Tiny enjoyed cooking, sewing, and traveling with her family and church group.
Survivors include one son, Jack Martin (Marty) Pennell and wife Wanda of Fuquay-Varina; two daughters, Paula Pennell Eller and husband Jerry of Hickory, and Kaye Pennell Watts of Winston-Salem; and numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Pennell family will receive friends from 12:45pm – 1:45pm prior to the service at Pendry’s Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel in Lenoir, with Rev. Dr. David Smith officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request contributions be made to First Baptist of Lenoir or the Charity of the giver’s choice.
