Richard Paul Messer

Mr. Messer was born in Caldwell County to the late Paul Richard Messer and Shirley Kidd Messer Hudson of Morganton. He was also preceded in death by an aunt, Audrey Bristol. He was a self-employed contractor, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Desert Storm and the Gulf War and was a bronze service star’s recipient and was a member of Abundant Life Tabernacle Church.

Survivors include a son, Jared Richard Messer of Lenoir; a daughter, Elizabeth Michelle Messer of Lenoir; his fiancé’, Lisa Shoun of Morganton; brothers, Dwayne Messer, Christopher and Christian Messer all of Lenoir; sisters, Regina Messer, Jana Messer and Jessica Dellinger all of Lenoir and his grandmother, Hazel Kidd of Lenoir. He is also survived by 2 nieces and 8 nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Pendry’s Chapel Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Michael Allen, Reverend David McNeil, Reverend Mike Greene and Reverend Brian Craig officiating. Burial will be at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Monday, February 28, 2011 at Pendry’s Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
