Joseph (Joe) Henry Louis Hood, son of the late Simon and Patsy Shell Hood, was born in Caldwell County on September 20, 1937. He departed this life July 20, 2011. He is preceded in death by three brothers John, Billy, and Sonny Hood and two sisters; Edna Corpening and Peggy Corpening.
Joe attended and graduated from Caldwell County schools. In 1950, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country honorably. He was a man of many talents, and worked tirelessly to lend a hand to others within the community. Joe helped many friends and loved ones by way of providing wood for winter, plowing gardens, baling hay, and would work to ensure homes within the community had plumbing for running water. Furthermore, as most people that know him can attest, he had a great passion for raising livestock. However, most of all, he truly loved his grandchildren.
He was married to Charlotte C. Hood on Oct 3, 1959. Joe was a member of Hood’s Chapel United Church of God and he enjoyed Sunday school.
Memories of Joe will be cherished by his devoted wife Charlotte C. Hood of the home, two sons; Clarence E. Hood (Mary) of Columbia SC, and Tony L. Hood (Sylaine) of Charlotte NC, one daughter Pamela (Pam) Hood Smith of Asheville NC; one brother, Carlos “Sunshine” Richard Hood of Lenoir, two sisters; Loraine Rhinehardt and Joyce Hood, both of Lenoir, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Joe will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Hoods Chapel United Church of God at 2:00 p.m. with the Bishop Philmore Hester officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00p.m. until 2:00p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
