He was born on September 1, 1946 in Caldwell County to the late Fred Vernon Pipes Sr. and Jeanette Bowman Pipes. Mr. Pipes was a member of Free Spirit Baptist Church in Hudson and a veteran of the United States Army.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Lois Hamby Pipes; sons, Tony Alan Pipes of Lenoir and Matthew Lanies Pipes and wife Kristy of Hudson; daughter, Rena Marie Pipes of Lenoir; brother, Harold Dean Pipes of Hubert, North Carolina; sisters, Edna Sue Pipes Wilcox and husband Odean of Lorton, Virginia and Mildred Pipes Moore and husband Robert of Vilas, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tamisha Villanueva and husband Edvin of Charleston, South Carolina, Charles Davidson of Lenoir and Tyler Pipes of Hudson; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Calvin Hargett, Rev. Junior Hamby, and Rev. Gurney Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Military honors will be performed by members of the North Carolina National Guard. Interment will immediately follow the service at McCleod Family Cemetery in Buffalo Cove.
