Mr. Townsend was born in Watauga County to the late Arthur Townsend and Pearl White Townsend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffery Townsend, Greg Townsend, James Townsend, brothers, Roy, Earl, Jim, Howard, Jack, Paul, sisters; Mayme Dotson and Juanita Harmon.
Edward was a stubborn, determined man who never gave up. He loved his farm, moving houses, and buying and selling all kinds of things. He was truly a Jack Of All Trades. He was a simple man who loved the simple things in life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rose Hall (Griffith) Townsend, of the home, his son, Russell Townsend and wife Diane of Lenoir, daughters, Sherri Townsend McGinnis and husband Glenn of Hildebrand, Beth Townsend Duncan and husband Jimmy of Lenoir, step-daughters, Robin Barner of Rogersville, TN, Billie Marie Bunn and husband Brian of Kannapolis,Rebecca Griffith and fiancé Michael Edwards of Hickory, brother, Kenneth Townsend and wife Grace of Lenoir, sisters, Sarah Bauman and husband Doug of Hamilton, OH and Pat Powell and husband Sonny of Lenoir. Also left to cherish his memory are 5 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor his memory will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Grey Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Townsend Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for an hour and a half prior to the service, from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Timothy Webb, Kelsey Webb, Donnie Sanders, David McGinnis, Kevin Townsend, James Russel Townsend and Glenn McGinnis.
