Jimmy Birks Davis, at the age of 86, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. Jimmy was born to A.B. and Odena Davis on November 18, 1937, with two siblings, a sister, Billie Jean, and one brother, Roland. Jimmy met the love of his life, Marthanne, on a blind date, which took place at Birmingham’s historic Vulcan Park. Jimmy and Marthanne recently celebrated 64 beautiful years of marriage. Together they had one daughter, Melinda, and lived in Leeds all of their lives.
Jimmy spent most of his life as a knowledgeable and committed employee of the auto parts industry, working in both sales and management. Family was of utmost importance to him, and he was a devoted husband to Marthanne, and a wonderful father to Melinda. When Melinda met and married Alan, he loved Alan as though he were his own. And when grandchildren came, Jimmy took great joy in seeing and spending time with his three grandchildren, Alan II, Alexandra, and Andrew. He loved them big and was thrilled as his family grew when Caroline and Alan and Alexandra and Alex fell in love and married. Seeing his six beautiful great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine, William, Harrison, Lucy, Blair, and Collins delighted him so much!
Jimmy and Marthanne worshipped together at Leeds First Baptist their entire marriage. Jimmy enjoyed cars, birdwatching, collecting coins and banks, woodworking, taking drives with Marthanne, country music, the mountains and the beach. He enjoyed being outside and always made sure the birds and squirrels were well taken care of with food and water each day.
Almost eighteen years ago, Jimmy was diagnosed with cancer. It was a hard fought battle, especially in the past year.
Jimmy’s family takes great comfort in knowing he is now fully healed, and in the presence of Jesus.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Marthanne, daughter, Melinda (Alan), grandchildren, Alan II (Caroline), Alexandra (Alex), Andrew, and great grandchildren, Mary Katherine, William, Harrison, Lucy, Blair, and Collins. He is also survived by one brother, Roland (Martha). He is preceded in death by his sister, Billie Jean, father, A.B., and mother, Odena.
Services for Jimmy will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Kilgroe Funeral Home, 1750 Ashville Road, Leeds, Alabama 35094. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M., with services at 1:00 P.M. in the chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
