Janice Stone Acton, age 69, of Leeds, Alabama passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022. Janice was born in Riverside, California on December 21, 1952. She is preceded in death by her parents Billy J. Stone and Margie Guthrie and stepfather Gordon Guthrie as well as her brother Bobby Stone. She is survived by her loving husband James C. Acton with whom she recently celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage; daughter, Carrie Acton; sons, Michael Acton and Benji Acton; brother, Billy Stone and partner, Frank Jackson; grandson, Kaleb Acton and godchild, Nataleigh Vickers as well as a host of other family and friends whom she loved dearly. Janice was known to be a selfless woman who always made it her priority to help others first and foremost above herself. Her care and love for children was unwavering and undeniable. Her lifelong passion was teaching children which she did for over 40 years at First Baptist Church of Moody Kindergarten/Daycare, New Life Fellowship Kindergarten in Moody and First Baptist Church of Pell City Kindergarten/Daycare. She cared for and loved every child that passed through her classes as if they were her own. Over the years, she taught hundreds of children and became known as “Miss Janice.” She was also a member of Church of the Highlands where she enjoyed participating in the Women’s Prison and Correctional Ministry.
Miss Janice enjoyed trips to the beach, camping and cookouts at Lake Logan Martin, travelling and spending time with her family and friends. She was a mother-figure to many who loved her and who will dearly miss her unconditional love, nurturing and guidance.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 2-4 pm at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds. In lieu of flowers, food and other contributions, the family requests that donations be made in Miss Janice’s memory to Miss Janice’s Memorial School Supply Fund to benefit underprivileged children in need of school supplies. School supplies and monetary donations can be dropped off or mailed and should be made payable to First Baptist Church of Pell City Kindergarten/Daycare c/o Tammy Huey.
