Herb had registered for this year's Sewanee Homecoming and I know he's now truly a Sewanee Angel -- what a good guy.  We are so sorry for your family's loss.

Herb and I were locker mates all four years of high school. By the time we were  sophomores he had a key to my house and my parents felt like they had the son they wanted. Good times, some not so good, no matter Herb stuck by my side and even though we have not been so close over the past few years at any given time our conversations  always picked up like it was yesterday since our last visit. Today, buried  was more than our friend, our brother. Love you

Herb will be missed by many family and friends. Our thoughts are with Vicki and the kids and the Sparks family. Peace.

I roomed with Herb's first cousin, Mary Clyde, my freshman year at Sewanee. Herb was our surrogate big brother and looked out for us. I looked forward to a big 'Herb hug' whenever I ran into him at Homecoming over the years. Vicki, Mary Belle, Chris, and the rest of the family - you are all in my thoughts and  prayers.

Wow. Herb was one of my pledge class brothers at the beta house in sewanee. He was such an incredible, outgoing, loving and fun loving person. Every time i saw him i was grateful for the opportunity. A person could not ask for a better friend. It is hard for me to fully grasp the concept of his departure. Vicki, my prayers are with you and your kids. And Herb, look down and smile on us, and that smile will warm our hearts as it always has. Peace. Penney File

Herb was an awesome father and friend.  He was a avid sportsman and his fellow hunting buddies will miss him greatly. Curl Station Hunting Club will not be the same. God bless Nathan and Cameron and all of the family.

Herb was my big brother in the beta house at Sewanee.  I couldnt have asked for a better friend, mentor or role model. I will miss him.

I was a member of Herb's breakfast team at the Advent in 90s. A great guy, good friend. My condolences to the family.

We are very sorry for the loss of David Jr's friend Herb, he visited  us many times when they were going to Sewanee together, we all had a lot of fun together. Herb will be sadly missed, Mr and Mrs David G Wirtes Sr.

My sincere condolences to Vicki, Nathan and Cameron, as well as the entire Sparks family. What I remember distinctly about working with Herb at Attenta is the pride he had whenever he spoke of Vicki and his boys. Prayers for you all.
