He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Patricia C. Denton, parents Ethel and David Denton, sister Anne D. Turner, brothers John D. Denton and Edgar P. Denton, Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Ellen P. Denton (Joe Nobles, Sr.) his son, David C. Denton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Navy during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class, serving on the USS Pollux (AKS-4), and the USS Misspillion (AO-105).
After his military service, he was a Technical Writer for Hayes Aircraft, before being employed by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Department, retiring after 24 years service, after which he worked for 16 years as a driver for Walker Wholesale Drug Company. During these employments he became a Master Carpenter specializing in Interior Trim.
He enjoyed woodworking, and spent much of his retirement building rocking horses and other items for family and friends.
A life-long Methodist, he was a member of Brookhaven United Methodist Church, then Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery on December 1, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on December 10, 2023, following fellowship at 1:30 pm, at New Beginnings Fellowship, 3019 White’s Chapel Parkway, Trussville, Al 35173.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to New Beginnings Fellowship .
