October 8, 1931-August 20,2018
Geraldine was born on October 8, 1931, at home in rural Shelby County, Alabama.
Her entire life, except for a few years in the late 1940’s, was spent in Sterret, Alabama. She and her husband, Hubert, lived for a short period in the Fairfield/Ensley area of Jefferson County, Alabama.
As a child, she attended the two room Sterrett Elementary Schooll and later Vincent High School. She was a near life long member of Beulah Baptist Church. She was a long time Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School volunteer, Choir member, the Women’s Missionary Union, and part of the Birthday Club.
She and her husband were great fans of the University of Alabama college football team and for many years followed the team around the southeast. Favorite destinations were Baton Rouge and Knoxville. They also traveled to South Bend, Indiana and the Orange and Sugar Bowls. They were also race fans and planned trips over the years to most of the famous southern speedways.
Geraldine’s career was dedicated to selling Avon products. In fact, for forty-nine years she was the local representative in Sterrett and covered the other rural areas for miles around. Her successes qualified her for the President’s Club most years. She has a large collection of the Miss Albee porcelain figures as evidence.
Geraldine fought a long, multi-year battle with Alzheimer’s. She passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018. She is survived by husband, Hubert McGuire, daughter Pam Carlisle, son Tim McGuire, grandchildren, Brett Carlisle, Megan McGuire, Katie McGuire, Will McGuire and great-children: Christopher Carlisle, Zach Carlisle, and Wyatt Carlisle.
A service and burial were held at Beulah Baptist Church, Sterrett, Alabama on August 25,2018.
