Huffstutler was Sales Manager for the George S. Edwards Company in Pelham from 1984-1999, when he retired. Much of his career was spent with family business, Huffstutler Chevrolet Company, where he served as president from 1966-1982 in Blount County, AL.
He was a member of Leeds First Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Chairman of the Buidling Committee, on the Pastoral Search Committee, and as Sunday School Director. He sat on the Board of Directors for the Citizen’s Bank in Leeds, and also Highland Bank in Birmingham. Huffstutler served more than twelve years on the Board of Trustees for Leeds High School, and also the Jefferson County Board of Education Career Technical Advisory Council. He was President of the Leeds Water Board, and was active in the Leeds Lions Club.
He was a 1953 graduate of the University of Alabama where he majored in accounting, and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, business honorary and Beta Alpha Psi, accounting honorary. While at Alabama, he also served as Cadet Colonel in the Air Force ROTC, where he was selected Outstanding Air Force Cadet. Upon graduation, Huffstutler served two years at Brize Norton Royal Air Force Base in Oxfordshire, England.
Huffstutler was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Homer Huffstutler and Laberta Garrison Huffstutler, wife, Frances Edwards Huffstutler, and brother, Julius Bill Huffstutler. He is survived by one son, Charles David Huffstutler of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Cathy Huffstutler McLaughlin and Lisa Huffstutler Banks; of Birmingham; and five grandchildren, Jeffery Owen McLaughlin, Timothy Jackson Banks, Sarah Adelaide Huffstutler, Charles Garrison Banks and Katherine MacLeod Huffstutler.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 11:00, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds.
Pallbearers will be Garrison Banks, Jackson Banks, Kevin Cosma, Dan Edwards, Jim Hill, Bobby Lee, Owen McLaughlin, Gray Parker, and Bob Wilder.
