Rosanna Brandt Slayton, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2019, at Cornwall Manor, where she has resided since 2006. Born in Lebanon on January 22, 1923, to the late Daniel B. and Sarah Meyer Brandt, she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1938. She studied piano and voice at Messiah Junior College, then transferred to and graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in Music Education in 1942. She subsequently taught Music, English and Latin at public schools in Thompsontown, Elizabethtown, Manheim, and her hometown of Ebenezer. In 1956, she answered a missionary call and moved to Tampa, FL, to teach music in grades 1 – 6 at the St. Paul E.U.B. Church and School in Ybor City. While teaching in Tampa, she met her future husband, Carroll Emerson Slayton, in the young adults group at Hyde Park Methodist Church, and they were married on August 1, 1959 in her home church in Ebenezer, PA. Rosanna and Carroll were married 45 years, until his death in 2005. They were members of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Lebanon. Rosanna served in church music ministries for over 50 years, as an organist, choir leader, singer and hand bell ringer at various churches in both Tampa, FL and in Lebanon County, among them Ebenezer E.U.B., Schaarai Zedek Temple, Palma Ceia Methodist, Midway Church of the Brethren, Trinity United Methodist, St. Andrews Presbyterian, and Ebenezer United Methodist. She also taught piano students privately for many years. Rosanna is survived by a son, Paul and his wife Nancy in Rhinebeck, NY, a daughter, Sarah and her husband Joseph Fontana in Glenside, PA, 3 grandsons, Alexander Slayton, Brandt Slayton and Jack Fontana, a sister, Elizabeth B. Myer in Womelsdorf, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alfred Brandt, Sr., Adam Brandt, and sister, Sarah Brandt McKay. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial worship service at Cornwall Manor’s Zerr Chapel on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held on Friday March 8th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM at Rohland Funeral Home, 508 Cumberland St., Lebanon.
