Its taken me a little while to be able to come to this page and look at the pictures again since nanny has passed. As much as time does heal wounds its still hard everyday to wake up and now that there is not even a chance of a phone call from her or talking to her. Nanny loved unconditionally a term and a love that the only other time iv even heard or spoke of was in theology class (religious studies). Since I was born I was always nan and pap's baby, they never let me forget that, and i always will be. Things are different and life will go on, not with nan being ther to talk to..instead by looking over me from heaven. I will always miss you nanny. and I am forever in debt for the things that you have done for me.

It was a sad day indeed. I attended Nanny Koots funeral today. It was mentioned to me several times over the last couple of months that I didn’t have much time to spend with her but life just kept pulling me away. I kept banking on tomorrow. Tomorrow did come but unfortunately it was the phone call telling me that she might not make it through the night that finally made it urgent enough. I went to the hospital that same night. She wasn’t really conscious at that point and mostly just slept. I spoke to her softly in spite of the fact that she was all but deaf. I held her hand for awhile and I finally kissed her on the cheek. A couple of seconds later her eyes opened she looked me in the eyes for a good bit of time, I wasn’t sure she knew who I was, I hoped that she did. I sort of got the impression that she may have mistaken me for my father as a young man. Suddenly she attempt to sit up and remove the oxygen mask from her face, my Aunt Patty helped to calm her down and put the mask back on.  She became frustrated with the heart monitor pads that were stuck to her chest as she attempted to rip them off multiple times. We had to put them back on according to the nurse; frankly I just wanted to rip the damn things off for her. She opened her eyes there after periodically and sort of stared at the ceiling in a deep gaze. I felt empty inside knowing that I could have seen her many more times before she reached this condition. As I sit viewing her page on the funeral homes website I gander at the photos of her life with many thoughts running through my head. It’s a bit odd to see all the black and white photos. I recall seeing them in my school books, namely history class the most. It always seemed so far away, the old black and white past. I can’t help but think of her life now. How she grew up… the house she lived in... what her parents were like…  and ohhhh the fond memories. I found out by reading the obituary that she was born September 15, 1920. I don’t think I ever even realized her birthday was only 14 days after my own. How easy would it have been for me to call her all those years?  She was born in Fontana PA not to far from Lebanon. Her parents were Samuel Rhoad and Clara Heverling, don’t really know much about them. Not even sure at this point if I even remember if nanny had any sisters or brothers, Im pretty sure she did. I remember some names, and  bits and pieces from the times I spent with my father’s side of the family. It all seems so long ago. I have absolutely nothing but fond memories of Nanny Koot as I believe everyone in the family feels the same. She was truly a unique character. It really puzzles me that I left a relationship grow so distant with someone who I loved so much. More importantly that I didn’t mean to do it nor did I realize that it happened. It was the end of an era as I have no grandparents left anymore. A small reminder that time is catching up with me as well. Im 37 years old, Jarryd will be 5 in a couple days, Karlie 7 on Christmas and Gretch and I will be celebrating 22 years of life together on January 5th. The pastor said today that we all fear death. I’m not sure I fear death as much as I fear the pain of the separation caused by death. I don’t want to die because I don’t want those I love to hurt. It saddens me to lose my nanny koot. I wish my children could have gotten to know her the way I did.

People often say "you dont know what you got,until you lose it".But I didnt have to lose you to know what I had. The best Mom.
