James lived in Liberty Hill, Texas for 73 years where he and his wife Virginia raised three children.
James was a World War II Veteran and served his country as Sergeant in the Army. He was instrumental in forming the Williamson County Board of Realtors and served several terms as the president. James served on the Liberty Hill Cemetery Association Board for 40 years with 33 of those years served as President. He was a founder and past president of the Central Texas Quarter Horse Breeders Association.
James was a farmer, rancher, horse breeder, and Real Estate Broker. He served his community with selfless passion, and was a life member and retired elder of the Liberty Hill Church of Christ.
James was predeceased by his father, Charles Culberson Hanley; his mother, Maggie Rezelle; his wife, Virginia Hanley; his brothers, Boyd and Troy Hanley; and his sister, Winnie Medcalf.
James is survived by his children, David Hanley and wife Kay of Lindale, Texas, Craig Hanley and wife Terri of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Treva Chaumont and husband Armando of Leander, Texas; grandchildren David Kirk Hanley and wife Billie, Kevin Hanley and wife Amy, Daryn Hanley and wife Tara, Alecia Pritchett and fiance Chris D'Souza, Craig Hanley Jr., and Annalee Chaumont; great grandchildren Abbigail, Aiden, Hunter, Ellie, Grady, Max, Alexis, Dean, Avery, and Hope; and his beloved extended family Cathy Jones and Christina and Lee Gabel; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Liberty Hill Church of Christ, 1700 Loop 332, Liberty Hill, Texas 78642, with Pastor Jason Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, 16101 TX-29, Liberty Hill, Texas 78642.
The family would like to acknowledge all the wonderful staff at The Legacy at Crystal Falls in Leander. James received the best care possible from the most compassionate and loving staff who treated him like family. Thank you all so very much.
