Elly is survived by her son, Gregory Malone, daughter-in-law, Melinda Malone, grandson, Alexander Malone, granddaughter, Briella Malone, brother, Eric Houben, sister-in-law, Magda Houben, and nephew, Christopher Houben.
Elly married the love of her life, Ross Augustine Malone II on July 11, 1970, in San Antonio, Texas. Ross and Elly were married for over 40 years when Ross passed away on December 26, 2012, from a lengthy illness.
Elly was born August 5, 1936, to Czeslava and Arnold Houben in Shanghai China, and lived in Hong Kong until she was 5. When the Japanese invasion of China happened during World War II, all the international families had to pack one bag per person, and were shipped to an internment camp in Satara, India, where she lived with her brother and mother until she was 12. When the war ended, they were reunited with her father, and moved back to a war torn Austria, where he was from.
Elly learned 7 languages, and spoke 5 fluently. She graduated with an architecture degree from The University of Graz, in Austria, and moved to the United States, (San Antonio), to work on the Hemisphere project, eventually earning a Masters in Architecture from The University of Texas at Austin. Elly would eventually become a city planner, specifically for small business development, for the City of Austin, where she worked up until, and beyond her retirement.
Elly was a devout Catholic, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her friends dearly. She loved talking to people, and she stood up for what she believed in. She will be greatly missed, but will be resting in peace, reunited with Ross in the columbarium memorial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
