Colonel John B. Miller, Jr., USAF (Ret.), beloved son of the late John B. and Helen Ryder Miller, passed away suddenly on April 23, 2011 at the age of 78. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan Weber Miller; he is also survived by sons John G. Miller of Rocklin, CA; Thomas M. Miller of Hong Kong; Mark C. Miller of Ellicott City, MD; and Stephen A. Miller of Zurich, Switzerland; daughters Mary P. Miller and Laura M. Miller of San Diego, CA; and Joan E. Douglas of Jefferson, MD. In addition he is survived by 17 grandchildren.
Colonel Miller served for over 30 years as an officer in the US Air Force. He served in a variety of roles with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) including Special Agent, Director of Counterintelligence for the USAF, and two assignments as an OSI District Commander. His duty stations included Bolling AFB, DC; Wiesbaden AB, Germany; McConnell AFB, KS; Westover AFB, MA; Kirtland AFB, NM; and Lowry AFB, CO; as well as a tour in Saigon, Vietnam.
Colonel Miller was a graduate of the University of Maryland and received a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas. Upon retirement, he and Susan enjoyed traveling around the world, visiting and sharing special experiences with their children and grandchildren.
Gathering will be held at the Fleck Funeral Home, Laurel MD, 7601 Sandy Spring Road, Laurel MD, on Friday April 29, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, MD. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date
