He was born October 5th, 1925 in Rostraver Township, Pennsylvania to James and Nancy Strain. He later met his soul mate, Elizabeth Linza, in Donora, Pennsylvania and they were married from July 27th, 1947 until her death May 6th, 2006. After her death, he spent his last years contented in the company of Frances Cella.
Bill served in WWII for the U.S. Navy from February, 1943 until December, 1945 aboard the U.S.S. Dobbin in the waters off Australia and New Guinea in his role as a Machinist's mate. This is where he developed his lifelong affinity and expertise in solving mechanical problems in all aspects of manufacturing and construction.
He worked as a Plant Maintenance Manager for Chevrolet Motors for thirty years in Michigan. Taking an early retirement, he and Elizabeth relocated to Navasota, Texas to work twenty more years for Grant Prideco, an oil tubular company. Finally, restless in retirement in Henderson, he went back to work for Sears in their tool department.
Bill loved cooking, spending time at the casinos, dining out, reading and exploring the internet. His family and closest friends, especially Joe and Kathy Kaiser, knew him as a kind and giving person. He'll be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his daughter, Alexandria, her husband Eric Doka, their son Bryan, his brother Alexander and his sister Marion.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 17th, at Palm Eastern Mortuary.
