The Life of Wiley Wayne Hayes
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Veteran, Friend, Child of God
On February 19, 1950 in Los Angeles, California a handsome baby boy was born to Ocenia Hayes and Frank Hayes, Jr. They named him Wiley Wayne. He was the only boy in the family with four sisters. We know what that means – He was spoiled.
Wiley attended 36th Street School, Mt. Vernon Junior High School and Dorsey High School, where he was a track star who earned many awards. He later joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam until he was injured during the war. He graduated from the Certified Nurses Assistant Program and worked in the field for twenty years.
Wiley moved to Northern California where he met his wonderful and devoted wife, Sheryl. They met in 1991 at Bibleway Church in Oakland. And, they were married August 1, 2009. With the marriage, Wiley became the father of Damon and Zalika Mayfield, Erica Matthews, Joseph Brown and Rhonesha Lone-Bass. He also was the grandfather of Daija, Andya and Damon Mayfield, Jr., and La’Naysia Means. He was devoted to his family.
Wiley and Sheryl moved their family to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2016. They united with Victory Missionary Church, Dr. Robert E. Fowler, Pastor. As a member of the church, Wiley volunteered as a driver of the church van to transport older and/or handicapped members to church. He also worked with the Prison Ministry. He worked faithfully with the church until he became ill.
Wiley was preceded in death by his father, Frank Hayes, Jr., Stepfather, Lando King, mother, Ocenia Hayes King, Sisters, Jacqueline King and Janice Hines; and his grandparents Tracy and Lela Nelson.
Wiley leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sheryl Hayes, sisters Jeraldine Martin and Wendy Sandefur; his brother Johnny Willis and brother-in-law Johnie Martin; his nieces Deyon Williams, Tasha Roberts, Zenovia Willis; his nephews James King, Jr., David Hawkins, his children and grandchildren and a host of family and friends. He loved God, his family and his friends. And, they loved him.
