Velma Shelby

Velma “Edna” Shelby of Las Vegas, Nevada was born September 25th, 1954 to James Hill Jr. and Bernice Jackson. She wore many hats in the hotel industry but was extremely proud of being in Customer Relations which she worked for many years. She always said it was a struggle caring for her children and working but being a strong woman, she made it work for that nothing was more important than her children. Velma passed away peacefully with her children and grandchildren by her side on November 16th, 2022 at Centennial Hills Hospital. Proceeded in her death is son JC Shelby III, sister Thelma Fenroy, Bobbie Dean Cleveland Dorf, brother Larry Hill, parents James Hill Jr. and Bernice Jackson.

She leaves to mourn her husband JC Shelby Jr., which they were originally from Louisiana and relocated to Las Vegas, NV in 1970. Her siblings Randy Hill, Andrea Alexander, Bonita Alexander, Roy Alexander, Mac mcgill Alexander, James “Bull” Hill and Cord Hill left to mourn her passing. Her loving children James Antonio Hill, Katrina Shelby, LaKisha Shelby, Toni Shelby, Destiny Jackson-Shelby and daughter-n-law Monique “Mocha” Hill all of which she loved unconditionally with every bit of her heart. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends whom all loved her dearly.

The viewing and funeral were set on different dates so that everyone would have an option to go and say their goodbyes. I will be present during both dates to take all that pay their respects.

A visitation for Velma will be held Monday, November 28, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Palm Downtown Cemetery, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
