Born in West Philadelphia, in 1953, he was the first son of Louis and Ruth Paul. His parents
didn’t give him a middle name and he would often joke that his family couldn't afford one.
He attended Northeast High School. In order to graduate there was a mandatory last day of
school, well, Steve didn't make it that day.
In the late 1970’s early 80’s, his shenanigans at the Jersey Shore, created lifelong friendships.
In the early 80’s, Steve started his career in the casinos at Harrah’s Marina in Atlantic City . He
also worked in The Bahamas for a bit, then relocated back to Jersey where he was hired at the
Golden Nugget. In 1989, he became a father. That same year, he was offered a job to open
The Mirage, and moved to Las Vegas. After 17 years at The Mirage, he went to Red Rock for 3
years and worked for his dear friend Bill Petusky. In 2010 Steve, along with Elaine and Anthony
moved cross country to work at Parx and Valley Forge Casinos in his home state of
Pennsylvania. Almost full-circle for him, working with people from his early Atlantic City days,
and meeting new friends along the way. Steve was definitely not a fan of the winters, so after 4
years, it was back to Vegas. He opened SLS which later became The Sahara. He retired in
2020.
He was the perfect fit for the old school Las Vegas style. His gift of gab, wit, and judgement of
people made him perfect for the industry. He also mentored and molded some of the “up and
coming” future.
In 2005, Steve married his soulmate and best friend, Elaine. He gained two awesome kids who
loved him as their Dad.
For 10 years plus, golf trips were a perfect fit with the Casino Cup being in MA. He would golf in
the tournament and Elaine would go visit family. Almost every Monday, rain or snow, you could
find him on the course at Paiute. He hadn't been in a few years, and missed his golf.
He was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, and 76’ers fan. For almost 30 years,
The Hard Luck League was his yearly fantasy football group. He enjoyed betting at the
racetrack. When he worked at Parx Casino and Racetrack in Bensalem, PA, he would enjoy
going there on his days off and bet on the horses. Belmar in CA and Gulf Stream in FLA were
among a few tracks he also would visit.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Paul, brother Mark Paul, and three children, Joseph Paul,
Anthony Labruzzo and his partner Christie Calara, Krista Moon and her husband Ryan Moon
who blessed Steve with three grandsons, Hunter, Waylon, and Hank. He also leaves several
loving relatives.
He will be missed.
