Sonia Eloise Willis

From God: June 16, 1959 - To God: July 6, 2020

Sonia Eloise Willis born June 16, 1959 in Las Vegas, NV the daughter of Shirley and Jimmy Willis. She attended Providence Day preschool, later St. Christopher Catholic Elementary School. She graduated from Bishop Gorman High School, Class of ‘77, where she was a songleader and a member of the Glee Club. Sonia cherished her high school friends and the memories they made at BGHS. She was happy to recently attend their 40th class reunion. Sonia was the middle child in the 1961 Leona house of siblings. She ran a tight ship in keeping the house clean and organized even as an adult Sonia was known for being meticulous about her own home and belongings. Her spirit was feisty, fiery and full of love. Sonia had no problem taking on the world if she felt she or any one she loved had been wronged - she was the ultimate warrior and protector.

Sonia worked in what we call the family business “education” both in California and Nevada. While living in Palmdale, CA for almost 20 years she worked with special needs students in the Palmdale School District. Sonia worked as a medical records clerk at High Desert Regional Center and UCLA Olive View Medical Center. Sonia made close friends in CA and was involved in her church community. She was a member of the Top Quality Ministry Church in Palmdale and served as the armor bearer for the Pastor and as an usher. She moved home to Las Vegas to be near her beloved Mom and began working for the Clark County School District as a teaching assistant for special needs students.

Sonia enjoyed dancing, listening to music and spending time with her family. She lived with the courage and conviction to be herself authentically and unapologetically. Sonia will be greatly missed, but forever remembered as someone who lived her life fiercely and passionately.

Sonia was preceded in death by her Father Jimmy Willis, and Dad Bobby McDaniel her Grandmother Mrs. Eloise Robertson (who she is named for). She leaves to mourn her Mother Shirley Morris and stepdad Marcus Morris. Sonia’s brothers: Michael Willis (m. Linda Willis), Tony Willis (m. Vernetta Willis) and Anthony McDaniel. Her sisters: Barbara Maxey, Cynthia Wesson (m. Greg Wesson), Michelle Willis Turner (m. Samuel Turner), Bobbi Rochelle McDaniel as well as her Morris siblings. Additionally, Sonia had a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and close cousins that she cherished, protected and loved deeply as well as many friends that were like family.
