Beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother Socorro Valtierra, 81, of Salinas, California passed away in Las Vegas on December 9, 2024 surrounded by family after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.
Socorro was born in San Juan De La Puerta, Guanajuato, Mexico on April 16, 1943 to Silvano Saucedo and Margarita Zaragoza. As a young woman in Mexico she became a masterful seamstress, a coveted skill her family cherished.
Socorro was a believer in hard work, laboring in agriculture when she moved to California and housekeeping in Nevada to provide for her children and herself. Tirelessly industrious and energetic even in retirement, Socorro was a passionate gardener and caregiver for her grandchildren. As a lover of beautiful things she collected and shared houseplants and her treasured heirlooms.
Socorro is preceded in death by her sons Jose Jesus Valtierra, Jose Leonardo Valtierra, her brothers Roberto, Bulmaro, Oliverio, Samuel, her sister Emelia, and her grandson Julian Reschman.
Socorro is survived by her children Florina Valtierra, Martha Valtierra, Gracie Reschman, and Victor Valtierra, her sisters Esther Saucedo, Natividad Saucedo and Ernestina Saucedo, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, December 22nd, 2024 at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89129.
