Sharon Savage

In loving memory of Sharon King Savage Born July 05, 1962 in Monroe, Louisiana to Candies Hollins and Louis T. Bailey who preceded her in death. Mommy had a beautiful and loving relationship with her stepfather, Clinton Hollins, Sr., and they spoke every Tuesday evening to catch up.

Sharon moved to Las Vegas from Louisiana in the 1980s. Sharon met, and was married to, Vincent B. Savage (deceased 2010.) Sharon had three daughters, Micah Nicole King, Nia B. Savage, and Arrianna A. Savage.

Sharon had a lifelong passion for reading and learning. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Services-Management from the University of Phoenix and was nine credits shy of her Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security when she had a stroke in 2012. Unable to complete her final classes, Sharon was still able to walk across the stage in her graduation ceremony just a few months later. This was just another example of her strength and perseverance despite any obstacles she faced.

Sharon’s love for God and people was unwavering. She was a fierce community servant and treated everyone as a beloved friend. Throughout her life, our mother dedicated countless hours to volunteering with local and national charitable and civic organizations. She believed in giving back and making a positive impact on the world. She served as State President of the International Association of Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows (IAMWMW INC.). She was also an Executive Committee member and Health and Wellness Chair for the local NAACP chapter. Sharon attended church faithfully, was an ordained minister, led Sunday school, attended church conferences, community outreach programs and special events. She was dependable and could be relied upon to lend a helping hand (despite her daughters fussing about “doing too much” and begging her to rest sometimes).

Sharon enjoyed her work friends and family greatly. She worked for the Nevada Test Site for over 15 years. She began working at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) in 2007. Sharon spent the last 10 years proudly working in the Military & Veterans Services Center (Go RebVets!). She greeted and helped countless military families transitioning to college life start or continue their educational journey with a kind voice and a warm smile. However, if we are honest about Mommy’s most important duty at work, it was keeping Ross Bryant, the Executive Director, from being late to his meetings.

Sharon was a twin and took great pride in reminding her twin sister, Karon that she was the “big sister” as she was born seven minutes before her.

Our mother’s cooking is legendary. If it is not evident by Micah’s lack of culinary art just look to her baby sister Joetta. Joetta HATED to cook. She used Sharon as a decoy chef to impress her now husband when they first started dating. Sharon cooked a wonderful meal and Joetta passed it off as her own. Sharon did warn Joetta the truth would come out sooner rather than and it did not take long for our uncle WIllie Jr. to realize his new bride could burn water. They are still married 40 years later so that first magical meal must have really stuck.

Our mother was a beautiful gift from God. Her kindness, generosity, laughter, warmth, and love will be greatly missed. Our mother was a woman who impacted many lives. We know the ripples of her love and kindness will endure far beyond her far too short lifetime. Although we grieve her loss, we also celebrate her spirit, life accomplishments, and the memories we all shared together.

Sharon’s life is celebrated by her daughters, Micah Nicole King, Nia B. Savage, Arrianna A. Savage. Siblings: Twin sister Karon King, Joetta H. Bridges (Willie Jr.), Clinton J. Hollins Jr., Barbara King , Betty Boone, Johnnie R. King, Thomas Barber, and Sharon Yvette Savage (AKA the original Sharon Savage). Sharon also leaves behind to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins (real and play), godchildren, and more friends, “play sisters” and confidants than anyone could ever hope to gain in this life. Some of these special angels include Neshanta, Haven, Victoria, Trey, Tyler, Nathanyel, Erica, Joseph, and John.

A visitation for Sharon will be held Friday, May 12, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. A funeral service will occur Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at New Jerusalem Worship Center, 1818 N M. L. K. Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89106. A graveside service will occur Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Palm Northwest Cemetery, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
