Samuel Holly McClain passed away peacefully on Nov. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas. He was 78 years old. Sam was born in Inglewood, California on May 28, 1946 to Joseph and Marjorie (Fraser) McClain, He grew up mostly in Las Vegas, where he and his big sister would run wild in the desert and where his father was the editor of the Las Vegas Sun
Sam was a graduate of Rancho High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1966 and was a petty officer on the USS Henry B. Wilson during the Vietnam War. He proudly worked 40+ years at the Nevada Test Site as an electronics technician. Upon retirement, he enjoyed being a docent at the Atomic Testing Museum.
When not working, Sam loved fishing and helping his wife with her various theater and dance projects. He enjoyed traveling, especially to places like Egypt. He was also an excellent cook and voracious reader.
Sam was the devoted husband of Yvonne (Wimmett) who preceded him in death in 2016. He is survived by his sons Jon McClain (HeeJin), Anthony McClain (Kourtney), grandchildren Devon, Justin, and Mark McClain, sisters Annie Barclay (Don), Casey McClain, and brother Pat McClain (Mary),
While Sam will be missed, we know he is happy to be reunited with his beloved wife. He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor and love for explosives.
A funeral service for Samuel will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Northwest, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. A reception will occur Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131. A visitation will occur Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89131.
