Robert William (Bob) was called home to Jesus on October 25,2020 after a long hard fight against colon cancer. Bob was born Dec. 21, 1943, to Peyton and Lola Proffitt in Livingston, Montana. He was the youngest of 10 children. He graduated from Park High School in Livingston in 1962. He attended a catholic seminary for several months before withdrawing in favor of attending college. He enrolled at Montana State University, Bozeman, where he earned a BS in Education in May 1966. He simultaneously was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army. He retired from the Army in 1987 having served at Forts Knox, Benning, Riley and Leavenworth in the states as well as two tours to Germany, and one each to the Republic of Vietnam and Thailand. During the Vietnam War, he commanded Troop B of the 10th US Cavalry (Buffalo Soldiers) and was awarded the Bronze Star and several Army and Department of Defense Commendation medals. Following military retirement Bob was the Resources Director for the 11 western states for Crawford & Company insurance adjusters. His third career, and the one he loved dearly, was teaching US History to 7th graders at Kenny C. Guinn STEM Academy in Las Vegas. Failing health forced his retirement from the CCSD in June 2017. Recently he enjoyed volunteering at his church. Bob married Janice Gail Wilson in 1971. They have remained married for 49 years. Together they raised two sons, Robert II of Spokane, Washington and John Marlow of Las Vegas. Bob loved his family, friends, work, and church. He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, 4 grandchildren (Madalynn, Peyton, Clodagh, and Briley), 1 brother Richard of Terrebonne, OR, and 1 sister, Betty of Missoula, MT, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John Neumann Catholic Church at 2575 W El Campo Grande in North Las Vegas at 12:00pm on Saturday October 31, 2020.Interment will be in the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Faith in Our Future capital building fund of St John Neumann Church, 2575 W El Campo Grande Ave, North Las Vegas, NV 89031.
