Robert Effinger was called home on August 15, 2020 at the age of 71. He was born on June 20, 1949 in Rochester, New York to Alvin Clarence Effinger and Nellie Brenna Effinger and raised with his older sister Jean. As a child he collected toy cars and baseball cards. In the spring if he wasn’t playing little league you could find him at a Redwings game with his dad.
He graduated from Marshall High School class of 1967 and continued his education at Rochester Business Institute where he graduated Tau Sigma Pi. After graduation, he traveled the country and pursued his passion for photography before returning to Rochester. There he enjoyed being a DJ for the local radio station, bowling in a league with friends, and watching horse races. His love of horse races even won him a new Geo Storm!
He met and fell in love with Susan Clark, whom he married in 1984. Bob and Sue raised two children, Paul and Christie, in Rochester before moving to Las Vegas in 1993. Bob passed on his love of baseball by supporting both Paul and Christie’s little league careers.
In Las Vegas, Bob quickly found a career in the sports book, where he was able to apply his love of sports, horses and stats. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, watching sports, and poker tournaments.
In his retirement, he enjoyed being a grandpa - attending many performances, sporting events, and birthday parties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Nellie. He is survived by his sister Jean Jost, wife Susan Effinger, son Paul Clark, daughter-in-law Tami Clark, daughter Christie Stark, son-in-law Joshua Stark, and six grandchildren: Anthony, Adriana, Haven, Addison, Blake, and Brenna.
Bob will always be remembered for his striking blue eyes, his infectious smile, and his intuition for picking the winner. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who visited the Bellagio and Barbary Coast Race and Sports Books. Friends are welcome to attend his celebration of life at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89129 on August 29 at 1:00 PM.
