We are sad to announce the death of Ricky Carl Suggs, who passed away in his home in Las Vegas on Monday, September 19, 2022 after a four-year battle with chronic kidney disease and heart failure. Ricky was a wonderful man who loved and was loved by many. We will miss him dearly. but are grateful that he is at peace after a difficult fight.
Ricky is a cherished father, husband. brother and friend to many people. He was born in Columbus, Georgia in 1957. Yet he and his mother moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was only a year old. Those lucky enough to know Ricky are familiar with the deep love he had for this great city and its culture. Ricky was the oldest brother to four other siblings - Cheryl. Jacqueline, Kimberly, and Derek.
In 1980 at the age of 22, he joined the Navy and set sail on a six-year journey that would forever shape his perspective of the world. After his honorable discharge in 1986, Ricky found himself in San Diego, California, where he met his first wife and had his first son, Ricardo. Several years later in 1994 after divorcing his first wife. Ricky met and fell in love with a small-town Mexican girl named Virginia, and within four months, they were married. The two remained married up until his death, and had two children together - Nicholas and Carla. In 1997 the family made the decision to move from San Diego to Las Vegas, where Ricky lived and worked as a valet at the Four Seasons Hotel until his retirement in 2019. It was at this hotel where Ricky made a majority of his life-long friendships.
If ever there was a person who truly embodied the phrase "one-of-a-kind", it was Ricky. It was his love of all people and beautiful sense of humor that made him who he was. He was a family man through-and-through. known to always brag about his children and gush over his wife. He could make you laugh with just a word or a funny face, even as his health rapidly declined during the last four years of his life. He was loved by the hospital staff at the Veterans Hospital in North Las Vegas, who became very familiar with him during his frequent hospitalizations and dialysis treatments. Ricky's family extends their deepest gratitude to the care team there and at the Centennial Hills Hospital. where he was also frequently treated.
Ricky was a fan of all sports but particularly fond of football, and often poked fun at himself for being a fan of the Detroit Lions. One of the last vacations Ricky ever went on was to Michigan to watch the Wolverines play at "The Big House", as a gift from his friends at the Four Seasons.
Ricky also loved the ocean. especially due to his time in the Navy. He was known to always reminisce about his vacations to the beach in Hawaii and Puerto Vallarta, and dreamed of going once more before his unfortunate passing.
There will never be another soul like Ricky on this earth. Although we miss him more than anything, we feel that he is somewhere magical with a head full of hair and wings the size of mountains.
We love and miss you so much, Ricky. Your family and friends can't wait to see you again.
Fly high.
