Richard was born on February 20, 1942 to John and Theresa Stasak in Gary, Indiana. He started working at an early age delivering newspapers, then setting bowling pins at the Sportsman Club in Tolleston. After graduation from Tolleston High School in 1960, he was assistant manager at Woolworths and attended Purdue University. He owned and trained trotters and pacers on his property while he lived in Hobart, Indiana. He also worked at US Steel as a foreman and at Burns Harbor Steel Mill until he moved to Florida to race horses. After selling his horses, he moved to Las Vegas. His favorite sport teams were the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan since the age of seven, waiting for that special World Series!
Richard had recently retired from the Mandalay Bay Casino before he entered the hospital for his heart surgery. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Eve, whom he and his sons cared for for eight years before she passed away. He and Eve married in 1965, and together they had four sons. Two months before Richard's death, his beloved dog had also passed.
Richard is survived by his sons, Richard (Lisa), Scott, Mark, and Ron; his three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and his four siblings, Dean of Portage, IN, Don (Carol) of Merritt Island, FL, Patricia of Chandler, AZ, and Cindi Mosian of La Porte, IN. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
