Richard J. Ryan 77, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on July 1, 2010 at Mt. View Hospital after complications from surgery.
He was born April 27, 1933, in Fitchburg, MA where he lived with his family for 46 years and was also a resident of Las Vegas for the last 31 years.
He was married to Lorraine (Guertin) Ryan for 43 years.
Richard served in the Air Force during the Korean War as Airman Third Class from
1952 – 1954. He worked for the railroad, Champa Real-Estate and owned and operated Ryan Real-Estate in Fitchburg before moving to Las Vegas in 1979.
He was a Councilor-at-Large from 1972-1978 and twice a candidate for Mayor of Fitchburg.
He also was a founder of the Western Minor Little League and past Grand Knight of Council #99 for the Knights of Columbus.
Although Dick moved many years ago, he always kept Fitchburg close to heart, whenever meeting anyone from Massachusetts he would introduce himself as
“almost Mayor of Fitchburg.”
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine on June 25, 1999.
Richard is survived by his children Rick Ryan and his wife Anne-Marie of Shelton WA, Cathi (Ryan) Smith of Las Vegas NV, Marty Ryan and his wife Alison of Ashburn VA and Tim Ryan and his wife Linda of Las Vegas NV
along with seven grandchildren; Matthew Smith, Michael Smith, Jason Ryan, Emily Ryan, Amber Ryan, Madison Ryan and Mackenzie Ryan and three step-grandchildren. Richard also leaves behind two sisters, Francis Goss of Fitchburg, Nancy Viggiano of Fitchburg and his life-partner for the past 10 years Karen Elvert of Las Vegas, her 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 13th from 6 pm – 8 pm @ Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89129.
