Richard was born October 27, 1942, to Arthur Lee and Jessie May Poindexter. He grew up the youngest son of seven children: Arthur Jr, Charolette, Esther, Mary, James, Ronald & Elizabeth in Alton Illinois. As a young man, he graduated from Alton Senior High and enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 as a Structural Steelworker. After an honorable discharge from serving his country, Richard explored a career in Culinary Arts where he excelled as a Master Chef at 5-star restaurants and eventually owned an establishment of his own.
Richard had a passion for cooking, music, dancing & gatherings with family and friends. In his retirement years, Richard enjoyed nights out on the town in Las Vegas, singing along to his favorite song “Tennessee Whiskey” & watching game shows with his wife & best friend Carole. Richard was a remarkable man of great character, fun, loving, humorous, and cared for his family deeply.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Lee & Jessie May Poindexter, his siblings, Arthur Jr, Charolette, Esther, Mary, James, Ronald & Elizabeth, and his previous wife Brenda McFarland Poindexter.
Richard is survived by his wife of 24 years Carole Ann Poindexter. His stepchildren Traci, LaRhonda, Earther Jr., Angelia & Karla, 13 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren, 1 Great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Richard leaves his loved ones with fond memories & will forever be carried in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Details of arrangements will be conveyed at a later time.
