Ray V. Dickens passed away in Las Vegas, Nevada of natural causes early in the morning on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Ray was born in Tarboro, North Carolina, child of the late James and Marie (Haywood) Dickens. He moved to Waterbury, Connecticut after his graduation from high school. The state of Connecticut is where Ray met his wife, Carolyn, and subsequently resided for most of his adult life. Ray was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. Upon his return to Connecticut after the war, Ray was employed at Pratt and Whitney. He went on to be selected by Connecticut Light & Power as a lineman and remained employed there for 35 years. Ray served as the commander of the American Legion Post #135 in Waterbury, CT, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War and was an active member in The Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in Connecticut. Ray had a massive stroke in 2001. He eventually retired and moved to Las Vegas, NV with his wife and led a very vibrant life surrounded by children and grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his wife Carolyn (Mack) Dickens; three children, Fernando (Zahra) Dickens, Kendreia (Frederick) Dickens-Carr and Kartika (Christopher) Dickens-Wilder; three siblings, Ernestine (Dickens) Gregory, Rudolph Dickens and Curtis Dickens. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Ray’s funeral will be held at Palm Southwest Mortuary, 7979 W. Warm Springs Rd., Las Vegas, NV on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. Friends and family may visit the funeral home from 9-10am. A Celebration of Life Service/Military salute will begin there at 10am. Burial will take place at noon at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
