Peter Joseph Szalay, age 76, of Vancouver, Washington passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. Peter was born into a large family in Hungary and lost his father while he was young. While still just a child, he helped his brothers and their friends fight the Soviet occupation during the Hungarian Revolution. This would cause much of his family to flee the country and he had to take on a lot of responsibility at a young age to help out his mother and remaining siblings who stayed behind to endure harassment by the Communists.
He worked hard and created a family but found that life behind the Iron Curtain was not the ideal place to raise children. He led the family to Canada and then on to America for a brighter future. That journey was not easy but he put his comfort aside to invest in the future of his sons and wife.
He leaves behind a wife of 56 years and two sons as well as a large and loving extended family.
