Trish and family,
  I just now heard of Skipper's passing and I am deeply saddened. I was fortunate to have served with Pat in VC-13 from 1974 until 1977, and even more fortunate to be a young sailor learning from a caring officer. 
  I was Pat's "plane captain" on many occasions, and took it very personal to ensure Skipper had a Safe ride to perform his mission. He seemed to notice and kept my young butt out of trouble in a number situations, as did  PJ Burke!  For an 18-19 year kid, having  great guys like Pat and PJ covering your "6" made everything good in life that followed possible.
  I reached out to Pat and we met up for "beverages" at Red Rock about 10 years ago. I am SOOO glad I had a chance to see him again, and to thank him for the huge kindnesses he showed a young man years ago, and for the example he set. He told me, "Yes, you were a handful".
    Before our squadron moved from New Orleans to Miramar, Pat had a party at the house. A number of us enlisted personnel decided to "crash". Skipper and the other "O's" were kind enough to let us hang for a couple rounds before we wore out the welcome mat! An exceptional group of men, with Pat at the helm. 
  Fair winds and following seas to you and the family, Trish.  Rest in Peace to Skipper McGirl. I proudly share your grief.

Great memories of Pat and Trish as head of the Family Awareness system for the 96 contract negotiations. Pat always had a great way with words in talking with the pilots.

Pat was my beloved brother-in-law (married to Trish’s younger sister Nancy for  54 years). He was the big brother I never had. Quick to laugh, and advise and counsel with his legendary sense of humor, steadfast convictions  of honesty, clarity of purpose and character.  He will live on in the hearts and minds of all the members of his Texas Family forever.  Fair skies, wide fairways, soft greens....

How do you say goodbye to a best friend of 50 years? Since 1969, Pat and I shared so many wonderful experiences at Delta flying four different aircraft together, he as Captain and I as his co-pilot, of course. In our Navy Reserve Adversary Squadron we shared so many air-to-air victories flying our jet fighters together. We also shared rich personal lives together, our families intertwined, including a recent trip to Las Vegas to visit. All this and never a single disagreement. So, I will never be able to say goodbye, I’ll just say, thanks so much for the great ride, my friend, see ya later, and you know that we’ll always be there for Patricia.

I got to fly with Pat a few times on the B-727 and several times on the DC-8. I always enjoyed flying with Pat. His constant smile and entertaining stories always made trips more pleasant. 
He will be missed!

Pat was proud of his time flying for PRANG and  serving our country and we always new what the right thing was to do in our ALPA work. God Bless you Patty  and we  will always cherish flying with Pat  and sharing "sea Stories "

I am very sorry for your loss, Trish.  My memories of Pat go back to 1969 when I was a new hire pilot assigned to the MSY  Delta pilot base.  Pat was a big help to me then and a good friend throughout our Delta careers.

Patrick McGirl, my roommate, my classmate and a great fellow pilot. I haven't had a close association with him during our retirements but he has always been close to my heart.  We had a wonderful time at Delta and both had long enjoyable retirements with a few bumps along the way but we made it in good shape and we did our best. We all miss you Patrick

Trish     Although I didn't know either of you that well, I was shocked to hear of Pat's passing.   Denny - Gene's son - was in town visiting this weekend and we were talking about cousins.   We were trying to figure out how old Pat would be, so I googled him.   We were  floored when we realized he has just passed away.   If you have the desire, I would love to have you call me so I can find out what happened and also if Tom and Virginia are alive.    My number is 314 822 9146.
