Dr. Michael John Montgomery D.D.S., our beloved husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend took Our Lord’s hand and returned home to heaven on April 19, 2020. Michael was born on August 7, 1943, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Colonel John R. Montgomery and Margaret Cornelia Weiler Montgomery. When WWII ended, the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. At seventeen, immediately after high school graduation from Benilde Catholic High School, he joined the Army National Guard. Subsequently, he attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1969. Three years prior, in the summer of 1966, his mother gave him $100.00 and he hitchhiked to Las Vegas, and for over a year he worked as a dealer in downtown Las Vegas and then on the Las Vegas Strip. While in Las Vegas, he met the love of his life, Madelyn Montgomery (Naples), at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and they were married for over fifty-one years. They returned to Minneapolis where he graduated from dental school, returning to Las Vegas in 1970. His exceptionally successful dental practice spanned almost four decades and his real estate business for over forty-five years. Among his many awards was his admission to the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Dental Academy. As his numerous friends, patients, and family knew, Michael was a philanthropic man and one of extremely deep faith; he was a devout Catholic, who dedicated his life to helping others. Throughout his lifetime he was an avid outdoorsman, golfer, woodworker, photographer, and world-class traveler. He is survived by his beloved wife, Madelyn Montgomery; loving son, Kelly John Montgomery; brother, Thomas James Montgomery; sister, Kate Jane Montgomery; sisters-in-law Claire Eisinger (Bill) and Rosemary Naples; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and countless friends. Our dear and precious Mikie was a treasured blessing for all who knew him; he will always be in our hearts and forever missed. Because of the strict CDC restrictions for COVID-19, the services must be private.
