Michael was born on August 15, 1967 in Easton, Pennsylvania to parents Charlie and Barbara. As a child, Michael enjoyed playing with tractors (or as he would call them “fractors”), he loved his Planet of the Apes play set, he enjoyed going on fishing trips up to Canada with his Dad and Mom, spending time at the family cabin up at the river, hanging out with his friends, and playing with his childhood dog Bo. Some of Mike’s closest childhood friends were Mike Unangst, Lester Hendricks, John Palmer, Bill Bonners, and Jake Morris. Michael graduated from Wilson Area High School in 1985.
After high school, Mike went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He then served at Kusan Air Force Base in South Korea and at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada. During his time in the Air Force, Mike received several awards such as the Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Throughout his life, Mike was always very patriotic and honored his fellow military brothers.
After the military, Mike went on to join to Las Vegas Metro Police Department. Mike served his city as a Metro officer for 23 years. His fellow officers will always remember Mike for his jokes and funny pranks. He retied in 2014. Mike made many lifelong friends while on the department such as Andy Walsh, Craig and Stacy MacGregor, Scott Friedman, Richie Chavez, Chuck Callaway, Pat Ledbetter, Steve Stubbs, and Troy D’Ambrosio. Although retired, Mike always supported his fellow officers and was proud to back the blue.
In November of 2014, he met his soulmate Stacey and they later married on September 1, 2019. While it was the second marriage for both of them, they would always say that this time, they finally got it right. They combined their families and are the proud parents of two daughters, Sarah and Ava, a son, Charlie, a son-in-law, Nick, and two beautiful grandbabies, Sage and Theo who Mike absolutely adored.
Mike loved to travel. He, his wife, and family loved to go to new place and see new things. They lived by the motto that they would rather spend money doing things to make memories verses buying material items. Mike’s favorite holiday was Halloween and he enjoyed decorating the house with the kids to make sure that he had the scariest house on the block. He was a big UFC fan and would often have fight parties at the house and invite family and friends over to watch with him. Mike also enjoyed working out, heavy metal music, and watching shows about Bigfoot.
Those who knew Mike will remember him for his sense of humor, the funny faces he would make, his strong sense of family, and how hard he loved those closest to him. No words can express how greatly he will be missed and what a huge hole so many of us now have in our hearts because he is gone.
