MATTHEW ANDERSON Matthew Anderson, 24, of Las Vegas, passed away May 15, 2010, at Sunrise Hospital, after a short illness. He was born Aug. 21, 1985, in Fort Smith, Ark., and had lived in Las Vegas for 12 years. Matthew was a 2004 graduate of Faith Lutheran High School and a Professional Golf Management student at UNLV. He had just started a summer internship at Red Rock Country Club. Matthew loved the game of golf and especially loved working with children. He was looking forward to graduation and a career as a golf professional. As part of Matthew's degree requirements, he had completed a number of summer internship assignments. One of his most rewarding summers was spent working with young golfers in the First Tee of Southern Nevada program. In high school, Matthew excelled in athletics. He earned letters in football, basketball and golf. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran 2A State Championship basketball team in 2003 and was twice named to the all-state basketball team. As a senior, he was a defensive standout on the Faith Lutheran football team and was named to the all-state football squad and voted the outstanding 2A defensive player in Southern Nevada. Matthew is survived by his parents, Steve and Debbie Anderson; three sisters, Amy Anderson of New Orleans, and Katie and Emily Anderson both of Las Vegas; a niece, Bayleigh Butler; and a nephew, Ren Butler, both of New Orleans. He also leaves a large extended family, including his grandmother, Norma Anderson of Willard, Mo.; great-grandmother, Lavina Florio of Fayetteville, Ark.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Matthew's love of life and compassion for those around him will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. A funeral service and celebration of Matthew's life will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday May 19, at the Chapel and Performing Arts Center at Faith Lutheran High School. Burial will be immediately following the service at Palm Memorial Park Northwest.
