Mary Cox Cowart (Kathleen Cox), born on 3/4/27 in Choctaw County, Mississippi, passed away on 9/21/23 at the age of 96 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Jane Hollingsworth, Millard J. Cowart, Jr., and Patricia L. Traylor; three grandchildren, Amber Gore, Anna Jones, and Christine Christner; and four great-grandchildren, Alex Gore, Nicholas Gore, J.J. Jones, and Addison Jones. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Like most people of her generation Mary lived through many decisive moments in our country’s history; the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and the war in Afghanistan along with many cultural changes. Her husband of 57 years, who predeceased her, enjoyed a long career in the U.S. Air Force which allowed her to travel to and live in several different countries. Mary enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping, and traveling. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, El Giza Temple No. 139, and Order of the Eastern Star. Mary was a great stay at home mom until her youngest child was older. She enjoyed a long career with the New York Life Insurance Company where she retired. As an avid fan of football, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and The Price is Right, she ensured the household was always lively and full of entertainment in her later years. She was the favorite of the family dogs, Amelia, Benny, and Coco. She will be forever remembered as an animated, deeply loving person. Though the world may seem a little darker without her in it, a bright, new star has joined the night sky and will always be keeping watch over us.
