Marnell Huggins, 85, of Las Vegas passed away January 7, 2015. “Marnie” was born November 15, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to parents Boyce and Myrl (nee Kimmel) Maddox. At an early age her family moved to a rural area in Kentucky near Centertown where she attended grade school. Later the family moved to Southern California and settled in Fontana, California where she attended high school and junior college.
She worked at Norton AFB, San Bernardino, as a Federal Civil Service employee in aircraft operations. During this period she met her husband of 60 years, Earl Huggins, who was an Air Force Officer. They later married on December 17, 1954 and she moved to join him at Lockbourne AFB near Columbus, Ohio. They made their home and raised their children at many different bases around the United States until retiring in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1973.
She was very active in volunteer work with schools, scouting and other children’s activities. She was an outdoor person and especially loved boating and camping.
She is survived by her husband Earl Huggins of Las Vegas, Darla Italiano of Manhattan Beach, California, Shari Huggins of California, Robert Huggins (Lana) of Las Vegas, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She will especially be remembered by her years of care for her children, parents and her neighborhood charitable activities. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
