Marlene Settle, 75, of Valley Springs, CA passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 16, 2022. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Marlene had two children, Heather Novehansky and JT Bauder and is the daughter of Herman and Harriet Settle, and sister of Karen Settle.
A graduate of George Washington High School and Colorado State University, Marlene moved around the country ultimately settling in her favorite part of the United States, Northern California.
Service oriented and a seeker of justice, she pursued these passions working with non-profits that included The Boys and Girls Clubs and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Once retired, she enjoyed volunteering in her community's library system and serving on the Grand Jury, always working to ensure equity and fairness.
Marlene enjoyed a fascination and appreciation for lighthouses. She visited many of them in the U.S., studying their legend and lore and treated those closest to her with colorful stories about them. She also found great joy in her beloved dogs, all of them Golden Retrievers, her favorite breed.
The breathtaking beauty and natural diversity of Northern California drew Marlene to settle there. She enjoyed sharing picnics with her son and dogs in the creeks and forests near her home. Her high spirit and strong sense of humor earned her the love of her friends and family.
She is survived by her children Heather Noveshansky and JT Bauder, sister Karen Settle, brother-in-law Edward Mutton, niece Erica Mutton, cousins Sandy Shur and Beverly Rouleau and Beverly's children and grandchildren.
Contributions can be made to the Northern California Golden Retriever Rescue or the Crohn’s Colitis Foundation.
