Margaret Frances Powers Cummings was born June 27, 1927 to Anna Belle and Lon Powers. She was the 6th of 7 children born in the family home built by her grandfather and uncles on their farm in Lebanon, Virginia. Margaret grew up in the Lebanon area and met herfirst husband, Lewis Ray Crouse while working at the County Agents office. They had 3 children, Rae Francene, Lonnie Franklin and Lewis Ray II. After their divorce, she met Robert Lee “Bob” Cummings on a blind date. Their marriage brought Bob’s 2 children, Kathy and Bobbie, into the family. They, along with their families and friends, will cherish their time spent together.
Margaret worked as executive secretary to the YMCA Director most of her career while raising her children and her much loved bulldogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, both husbands and her son, Lonnie. Margaret’s sisters, Dorothy Ann Thompson of Salisbury, Va., and Betty Lou Williams along with husband E. K. Williams of Round Hill Va., and families all have many memories of Margaret to recall. She will be missed by her daughter, Rae Francene Larrimer of Amarillo, TX and her family. Her son, Lewis Ray Crouse II, from Henderson, NV. and his family mourn her passing as well. Margaret is survived by countless grandchildren, great grands, nieces, nephews, co-workers, neighbors and friends who will remember Margaret for her family’s favorite dessert, her homemade peanut butter cookies.
A beloved mother, sister and friend to many, Margaret passed away peacefully surrounded by family the evening of May 22, 2024. She always said she was FROM Virginia but her HOME was in Las Vegas. Margaret will be taken home for her 97th birthday celebration where she will rest forever with her husband and son.
In a journal , Margaret once wrote: “Like the sand in an hourglass, so are the days of our lives. As I write this, I am 90 years old. I know I won’t be on this earth much longer. After I am gone–just remember me with love...and a smile.”
